We believe that from the moment of conception, (God’s miraculous creation of life), and throughout the gestation period, God is in the womb bringing the embryo to fetal stages and then to birth (Psalm 139). Since life begins at conception in His image and likeness (Gen. 1:1-2), the pre-born child is a human being endowed by his or her Creator with divine dignity and inviolable rights. Thus, pre-born children should be accorded the same protection of life granted to every other human being. Every human life is of infinite value to God. Regardless of the circumstances of pregnancy, A Beacon of Hope embraces that all life is sacred.
We are especially sympathetic to the tragedy and heartbreak of rape and incest, but cannot agree that abortion is a satisfactory solution for these victims. The violence of abortion is not a solution to the hurting of the innocent by rape or incest. Abortion, in the long run, only causes the mother greater pain and remorse. In these situations we believe we are called to offer a compassion that invites women to not be victimized a second time, by that false sense of freedom that our culture proclaims abortion to offer.
Nor can we acquiesce to the killing of deformed or unhealthy babies. In both instances the humanity of the fetus is the constant and determinative factor. The presence of imperfections does not justify Biblically, the destruction of children after birth. Why should different rules apply within the womb?
